Timma is a comprehensive calendar and cashier system for the hair, beauty and massage therapy industry. In addition, Timma has an on-demand booking platform for consumers which enables fast and convenient purchasing of salon services. The user can see all the professionals nearby who have free times available within the next couple of days, and by creating an account she/he can book and pay for the service with the push of a button.
A group of friends founded the company during their studies because they wanted to test their various business ideas. One of their ideas was a last-minute booking website for hairdresser and cosmetologist services. They developed the website and got the service running. Sales were very moderate for the first year and the team focused on a few other projects.
However, the website started accumulating more and more traffic, mainly due to word-of-mouth by users, and soon after hair stylists and cosmetologists started contacting the team. The professionals were really excited about the new customers they received through the website, but they had problems with their existing calendar and cashier systems. That’s when the team realized that the industry didn’t have proper IT systems developed for them. Consequently, the team started developing a comprehensive IT system in close collaboration with the professionals, and the first salons started using it in the spring of 2015.
Since the initial last-minute booking website proved that there was demand for such a service among consumers, the team upgraded it into a more sophisticated marketplace platform and integrated it into the professional system. After this the company really took off and by the spring of 2016, in 12 months, Timma had grown to be Finland’s most used calendar and cashier system in the industry and the consumer platform had over 10 000 active users. At this point the company decided to raise Seed round funding to start its expansion to the Nordics.
